Life began for Dorothy Jean Harris on June 13, 1940. She was the sixth child of eight born to Otis and Maggie Baker in Morgan County, Alabama.
She attended public school in the Decatur City School Systems, and went on later to perform housekeeping and childcare in private homes for most of her adult life.
Dorothy accepted Christ early in her life and had been a faithful member of Newscomb Street Church Of Christ led by Bro. Harold Wells for many years. She enjoyed singing the church hymns, her favorite being, " I'll Fly Away. "
Ms. Harris departed her earthly life in flight to heaven in the early morning hours on Sunday, August 31, 2014 at Decatur Morgan Hospital/ Decatur General Campus.
Her passing is a deep personal loss to her family, friends and many loved ones.
She leaves to mourn her passing: One daughter: Pam Harris. One son: Fernando Harris, Sr. both of Decatur, Alabama. One sister: Shirley Ann Baker. Seven Grandchildren: Richard Harris, Vance Harris, Zauria Harris, Darian Harris, Alyvia Harris, Paige Harris, Fernando Harris, Jr. Three Great- Grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 12:00 Noon at Newscomb Street Church Of Christ. Burial in Sterrs Cemetery. Mrs. Harris will be in church 1hr. before the services.
