Mr. Ritz Calloway Beshears, age 83, of Purlear, died Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at his home. He was born November 18, 1930 in Wilkes County to Martin Alonzo Beshears Sr. and Pearl Calloway Beshears. Mr. Beshears served in the Air Force from 1953 until 1957 serving as staff sergeant, after returning to Wilkes County he attended Barber School in Winston Salem and graduated as a Master Barber. He operated Main Street Barber Shop in North Wilkesboro for ten years then opened Second Street Barber Shop which became a family (three generation business) with his son and grandson carrying on. Ritz retired after 50 plus years. He was also a member of the Mt. Pleasant Masonic Lodge #573 serving as Master Mason. Mr. Beshears was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Joey Calloway Beshears, great granddaughter, Brenleigh Beshears, brother, Martin Alonzo “Bud” Beshears, Jr., and two sisters, Hazel Parsons and Nancy Fletcher.
Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Shirley Walker Beshears of the home; son, Gary R. Beshears and wife Phyllis of Wilkesboro; four grandchildren, Callie Beshears of Wilkesboro, Josh Beshears and wife Cynthia of Millers Creek, Dustin Church and wife Amber of Charlotte, Ashley Church of Hendersonville; one great granddaughter, Tymberleigh Beshears; three sisters, Denton McNeill of West Jefferson, Frances Cheek of Fleetwood, Bernice Eller and husband Tony of Albemarle.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 o’clock Friday, August 29, 2014 at Miller Funeral Chapel with Rev. Mike Stamper and Rev. Scott Church officiating. Burial with military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guard Post 1142 and masonic rites by Mt. Pleasant Masonic Lodge #573 will follow in Yellow Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Miller Funeral Service from 6:00 until 8:00 o’clock Thursday night.
