Helen Shinabery

Helen Pauline Shinabery, 93, of Rockford, died at 10:30 p.m., Saturday at VanCrest Health Care Center, Van Wert.

She was born on July 29, 1921, in Ohio City, the daughter of the late Peter W. and Loretta Louetta (Rayer) Wiseman. On October 17, 1941, she married Darlene M. Shinabery who preceded her in death on December 17, 1993.

Family members include her children, Sandi (James) Allmyer of Mason, OH, Bruce (Marcella) Shinabery of Van Wert, Brent Shinabery of Rockford, Vikki (Kerry) Kauffman of Decatur, IN, and Victor (Donna) Shinabery of St. Marys; one sister, Thelma “Tootie” Allen of Rockford; seven grandchildren, Carey (Kristin) Allmyer, Kyle Kauffman, Kara Kauffman, Kendra Kauffman, Ryan Shinabery, Matthew (Ashley) Shinabery, and Stephanie Shinabery; one great grandson, Jayson Allmyer; a step granddaughter, Chelli (Rodney) Sheffar; and three step great grandchildren, Dolan and Emma Haynes and Adam Sheffar.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Emma Lou Myers and Marcile Edna McDougal and four brothers, Paul, Waldo, Robert and Lloyd F. “Bud” Wiseman.

Helen had worked at Colonial Nursing Home and retired from Shane Hill Nursing Home after 25 years of service. She was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Ohio City and the 37th Division Ladies Auxiliary.

Services will be held at 8 p.m., Tuesday, August 19, 2014, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home with Pastor Chad Strabbing officiating. Interment will be in Dayton National Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday 6 - 8 p.m.

Preferred memorials are to the VanCrest Health Care Center or State of the Heart Ohio Hospice.
