George Richard Dumas, Jr.
“Loving Father & Grandfather”
Mr. George Richard Dumas, Jr., 76, of Danbury, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2014, at the West Haven Veterans Hospital.
George was born in Washington, D.C., on January 10, 1938, son of the late George Richard and Dorothy (Thompson) Dumas, Sr. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era achieving the rank of Captain, earning a Bronze Star and Air Medal. He received his Master of Science Degree and Planned Sixth Year at Central Connecticut State College and was member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity. As a teacher at Bassick High School in Bridgeport for over 24 years, he was recognized in the 2002 edition of Who’s Who Among American Teachers. He enjoyed listening to jazz music, cooking, was an avid reader, and loved to entertain friends and spend time with his family.
He leaves son Michael R. Dumas and Beverly Perkins, who was his loving caregiver, of Danbury, daughter Jolene Gibson and her husband Jordan of Greenfield, MA, sister Joan Ellison of Waterbury, three grandchildren Oscar, Joshua and Samuel, of whom George was very proud, aunts Eloise Thompson of Brooklyn, NY, and Lena Lloyd of New York, NY, niece, Robin Ellison-Davis, nephew, Bryant Ellison and a host of loved cousins.
Arrangements: A funeral service will be held 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury. Burial will follow with Full Military Honors at the State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown. A calling hour will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the Service at the funeral home
