Wesley Robert Thoms, age 84 of Metropolis, Illinois passed away peacefully in his home on August 8, 2014. His final days were spent with his wife, Margie, son, Wesley, and Granddaughter, Clarissa, and extended family.
Wesley was born on December 21, 1929 in Watertown, SD to William and Minnie Johnson Thoms. He served in the Korean War in 1951 where he was shot and suffered many years of discomfort. He received the Purple Heart and other awards.
Wes Thoms operated many businesses from Alaska, Oregon to Metropolis where he owned and operated the East End Tavern. Wes Thoms knows and loves his Lord God. He enjoyed singing and hearing the Bible read to him.
Wes leaves to mourn his passing, wife, Margie; son, Wesley; granddaughter, Clarissa; 2 sisters, Lucille Myers and Beverly Feighner; 3 brothers, Henry Tiegland, Leonard Tiegland, and George Tiegland.
Wes was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Darlene Lunning and Lorraine Roser; 2 brothers, Clarence Thoms and Delbert Tiegland.
Graveside services with Military Rites will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 14, 2014 at the Liberty Ridge Cemetery. Bro. William Schierbaum will officiate.
There will not be any visitation. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the services.
Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis is in charge of arrangements.
