Carol Hills, age 81 of Fremont, passed away on Monday, August 11, 2014 at the home of her dear friend, Rose Hekkema, who was by her side when she passed. Carol was born on September 15, 1932 in Benton Harbor, Michigan to Daniel and Doris (Davis) Kemmerling. Carol married Samuel Hills on March 8, 1957 in Fremont. They both worked for Gerber Products Company in Fremont for many years. Carol enjoyed knitting and donating hats, mittens, and slippers to local hospitals and charity organizations in Newaygo and Muskegon counties. She also volunteered years of service to the Special Olympics- Area 21. Carol was a member of Fremont United Methodist Church
Carol is survived by her son, Dale Hills of Fremont; step-son, Warren (Pam) Hills of Big Rapids; step-grandson, Thomas (Caroline) Hills and their children, Finn and Beatrix of Traverse City; step-grandson, Daniel Hills of Traverse City; brother, Ray Kemmerling; sister, Shirley Tibbitts; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Rose and Bob Hekkema, Nora Houston, and Doug Frens. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Sam Hills; her brother, Bud Kemmerling; and several brothers and sisters-in-laws.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 14 from 11 AM – 12 PM at the Crandell Funeral Home – Fremont Chapel with a memorial service to follow at 12 PM. Carol will be laid to rest next to her husband, mother, and step-father at Sherman Township Cemetery. Please consider Special Olympics – Area 21 for contributions in memory of Carol.
