Sherman was born in Pontiac, MI on June 23, 1953, the 7th child born unto the union of John Ester and Mae Jourel Threlkeld.

Sherman was educated in the Pontiac School System, receiving his diploma from Pontiac Central High in 1971. Sherman was employed with General Motors, from where he retired from in 2003, after 30 faithful years of service.

Although he worked and retired from the Orion Assembly Center, Sherman’s passion was barbering; a skill that he acquired in his early teenage years. He will probably be most remembered as giving so many friends and family members their first haircut or even their first Jheri curl. His at home barbershop provided the opportunity for many in the neighborhood to come just to be apart of the lively discussion on sports and politics.

Sherman was a man that believed in and loved the Lord. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior and was proud to be a member of Trinity Missionary Baptist church. He was a very mild mannered, soft-spoken and humbled man that believed in treating everyone with the utmost respect.

Sherman united in marriage to his childhood sweetheart and love of his life Janet Elaine Gracey, in 1974. Sherman and Janet became inseparable, you would not see one without the other. To this union two children were born: Sennel Kwame (LaShana) and Kesi Kidadda Threlkeld. The Lord also blessed him with seven grandchildren, who affectionately called him “Wah-Wah”: Sennel K Threlkeld II, Dazon M. Gross, Coryell T. Gross, Kayarri V. Ellis, Kierre J. Ellis, Khyrel D. Threlkeld, Kevarr V. Ellis

Sherman was preceded in death by his soulmate Janet Elaine Threlkeld, his Father John Sr. Threlkeld, Mother Mae Jourel Threlkeld, Brothers: James Perkins, Louis,Charles, Maurice, Dennis & Reggie Threlkeld and Sister-Law Abegail Dowell.

Grandparents: Sullivan and Eula Mae Hardy & John Neal and Augusta Threlkeld. Aunt & Uncles: Dr. Evelyn Morgan, Richard Lee Hardy & James Threlkeld and a great-nephew: Maurice Threlkeld.

Joining Sherman’s children and grandchildren in cherishing his memory are three brothers: John (Sandra) Threlkeld of Pontiac, Attorney Raymond(Sheila) Threlkeld of Illinois, Darryl Threlkeld of Pontiac.

Five sisters: Irene Ratcliff, Darlene Threlkeld, Yvonne Cummings, Valerie Felton, and Rosalind Threlkeld of Pontiac.

Sister-in-Laws, Millie Threlkeld Gladys Perkins, Ocelia LeDuff and a loving Aunt Irma McDaniel.

A host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and life long friends also join his family in remembering Sherm and the many ways he touched their lives.

Sherman was born into eternity Saturday, August 2, 2014.

Sherman will lie in repose at Cobb's Funeral Home 151 Orchard Lake Road Pontiac, MI 48341 on Sunday August 10, 2014 from 12 Noon to 8: 00 p.m. where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m. The Celebration of his life will be on Monday August 11, 2014 at 11:00 am Trinity Missionary Baptist Church 123 Wessen St. Pontiac, Michigan with Pastor John Tolbert, officiating, and he will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery Pontiac, MI.
