LOUIS GOODE MAYS, JR., affectionately known as “Bug” by family and friends, was born on December 31, 1934 in Warfield, Virginia to the late Lewis Mays and Nannie Edmonds-Mays. Louis joined Piney Grove Baptist Church at an early age, where he was baptized and remained a member throughout his life in Warfield. Louis graduated from James Solomon Russell High School in 1954.
Shortly after graduating, Louis enlisted into the United States Navy. He retired from the Navy as a Chief Petty Officer after twenty faithful years of service to his country.
During his military service, he made San Diego, California his permanent residence. After retiring from the Navy, he began working as a Boiler Operator and Plant Engineer with Scripps Memorial Hospital for another twenty-six years before finally retiring.
After retiring once again, Louis took pleasure in and really enjoyed cooking, yard work and anything else that would keep him busy. Louis’ number one love was his family. He would take trips back to Virginia every summer to visit all of his brothers, sisters, cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Louis was a longtime member of St. Stephen’s Cathedral Church of God In Christ. He truly loved the Lord.
