Pauline B. Snyder, 69, of Framingham died on August 1, 2014 at home following a long battle with lung cancer
She was the wife of Samuel P. Swisher of Framingham.
Born in Bethlehem, PA, she was the daughter of the late Charles Morris and Beatrice Louise (Keller) Snyder.
She was a graduate of Wells College and the Boston University School of Social Work.
A dedicated social worker for 45 years, she served people with mental illness and the elderly at various Metrowest social service agencies, as well in private practice. She co-founded the Social Work Assistance Network (SWAN) to advocate for better support for those in the profession experiencing personal distress.
A lover of music, she sang with the Heritage Chorale for many years and directed the English handbell choir at Plymouth Church, UCC in Framingham, where she also co-led the Women’s Fellowship Group. Among the many other community organizations to which she gave her time over the years were the Framingham Public Schools, Cub Scouts, and several child care centers. In her free time, Polly loved to read, travel the world, and keep in touch with her large network of friends.
Besides her husband Sam, she is survived by her three sons, Daren and Todd of Boston and Grant Swisher of Chicago, IL, as well as her brothers, Allen and Gerald Snyder.
A memorial service will be held of Saturday, August 9 at 1 PM at Plymouth Church, UCC, 87 Edgell Rd., Framingham, with a reception to follow. There will be no funeral home visiting hours.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Norton Funeral Home, Framingham.
