U.S. Veteran

Frank Bowman Jr., 64, passed away on July 26, 2014 at Lakeland Health Care in St. Joseph. He was born to Frank and Sarah Bowman on May 13, 1950, in Wetumpka, Alabama.

Frank resided in the Southwest Michigan approximately 60 years. After graduating from Benton Harbor High in 1969, he served in the Army until his Honorable Discharge in 1972. In 1973 he married Barbara Brown of Louisiana, and during this 23 year union their family grew to include 3 sons and 1 daughter.

His early employment included the Auto Specialties Manufacturing Company and Machine Mold. Later, Frank earned a Criminal Justice Certificate from LMC, and subsequently worked for Corrections and Parole in Berrien County. Additionally, he operated a moving and recycling business. Frank was a Big Brother mentor, and established a ministry of visiting nursing home residents. He was a member of Word Up Apostolic Church, pastored by Bishop O.C. Isom Jr. In 1998, Frank married Albertina “Tina” Bell, gaining a family which included 3 more daughters.

Survivors include his wife, Tina; and children: Richard, Gregory, Shannon Scott (Lamont), Gina Washington, Shontay Washington, and Danielle Washington; one brother, Rodney Bowman; sisters: Betsy Kreichauf (Ronald), and Patricia Fowler (Lee); 15 grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Sarah Bowman; a son, Christopher; and siblings: Martha Page, Mona Neal, and Randy Bowman.

Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, August 5, 2014, at Word Up Ministries, 643 N. Crystal Avenue, Benton Harbor. Visitation begins at 10:00 a.m., and funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow on Wednesday, April 6, 2014 in Fort Custer Cemetery.
