Gary R. Hansen

Aurora, Utah - Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Gary Read Hansen, age 80, passed away Wednesday morning, July 23, 2014 in Richfield, Utah. He was born January 3, 1923 in Logan, Utah, a son of Loyal Cannon and Grace Ann Read Hansen. At a young age, his parents divorced and his mother remarried Edmond Arave. Gary adored his stepfather. His father also remarried and he gained a stepmom, Shirley McCullough. Gary was raised in Ogden with his sister, Jeanene. He graduated from Ogden High school and served an LDS Mission to California-Arizona from 1954 to 1956.

In January of 1958 Gary married DeEtta Child in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. To this union came three children - Pamela Jean, Craig John and Ted Cannon. They later divorced. He later married Beverly Ann Hill on April 18, 1969 in the Logan LDS Temple. They had five more children - Kristi Ann, Katie Lynne, Jennifer Lynn, Garret Layne and Michael Geoffery.

Gary became a firefighter for the Ogden City Fire Department in 1958. He worked as a fireman until he retired in 1976. After retirement, Gary moved his family to Antimony, Utah, where they lived for the next 28 years.

They started a family business called Otter Creek Wooden Crafts, where they made wooden toys and children's furniture, that they sold all over the western United States.

Gary was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in many different callings. He served as a counselor in the District Seventy Presidency in Antimony.

He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed taking his kids fishing and hunting. He was a great rock hound. He taught his family how to garden and always raised a big vegetable garden. Gary enjoyed all sports and he and his wife taught their children how to play. He was a great dancer and taught his daughters how to dance. He was adored by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and will be deeply missed.

Gary and Beverly moved from Antimony to Aurora, Utah in 2005 because of health issues.

Gary is survived by his loving wife, Beverly, of Aurora; children: Craig and Christine Hansen of Farr West; Lynnette Hansen of Enoch; Kristi Ann Hansen of Aurora; Katie Lynne and Korry Jourdain of Parowan; Garrett Layne and Tina Hansen of Clinton; Michael Geoffery and Kathryn Hansen of Elsinore; 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by both sets of parents; three children: Pamela Jean Reno; Ted Cannon Hansen and Jennifer Lynn Hansen; two grandsons: Robert Edward Huntsman and Joseph Korry Jourdain; and a sister, Jeanene and Sherman Ochenbien.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at 12 Noon in the Aurora 1st LDS Ward Chapel, where friends may call for viewing Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or Wednesday morning from 10:00 to 11:30 prior to the services.
