Deacon Ferman Lee Young, 81, of Cardinal Nursing Home, South Bend, Indiana, peacefully passed away early Sunday morning, July 27, 2014, into the arms of Jesus. Deacon Ferman Young was born on April 22, 1933, in Pine Bluff, AR to the late Willie E. Young and Mattie McKay Young.
He was educated in the Pine Bluff school system. He retired from RACO after 30 plus years of service. Lee met the love of his life Mary, as he so called her, and they were united in holy matrimony on October 7, 1975, and were married for 38 years. He confessed his life to Christ Jesus and became a member at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church under the late Reverend, Dr. Henry L. Giden, Sr. He continued on with Rev. Henry L. Giden, Sr. to the now Progressive Missionary Baptist where he became a Deacon in 1983 and continued his deaconship under the leadership of his current Pastor, Dante A. Newbill, Sr. until his illness. He was a member of the Male Chorus of Progressive Missionary Baptist Church and founder of the “Gospel Messengers” and sang with the “True Believers.” Deacon Young love the Sunday School Department and always furnished them with “donuts” every Sunday morning. Deacon Young was there when the doors opened and closed and he was a dedicated servant to Progressive Missionary Baptist Church.
He leaves to cherish his memories: step-daughters Debra (Clifford) Clark; Glenda (Ronald Sr.) Dokes; step-son Curtis Sr. (Tchrina) Munlin, all of South Bend; step-grandchildren Daryl (Avis) Bush, Simpsonville SC; Leonard (Memorie) Bush, III, Indianapolis, IN; Curtis (Joy) Munlin, II, Denver, CO; Tammi Dokes, Muncie, IN; Ronald Jr. (Monica) Dokes, Indianapolis, IN ; Christan (Patrick) Shelton II, South Bend, IN; and Chris (Sheleita) Dawson, Indianapolis, IN; brother, Davine (Carrie) Young, Georgetown, KY; two sisters Ruthie Wilhike, Dallas, TX; and Verisa Lee McLemore, Milwaukee, WI; along with 14 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews family and friends who will truly miss him. Ferman Young was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife, Marion Young on July 23, 2013; three brothers: Sylvester Young, Lorenza Young, and Orlenza Young; and four sisters: Willie B. Young Jones; Beatrice Young; Claudine Young Boston and Ann Short.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 4, 2014, at Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, 1232 E. Bronson, South Bend, IN. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. and funeral services at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.
