Frances Jean Cunningham, 84, of Montague, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 20, 2014 at Madrone Hospice House in Yreka.
Frances was born on October 10, 1929 in San Fernando, California, to Walsey and Cora Tallman. Frances graduated from Yreka High School in 1948. In 1949, she married Gene Cunningham, and the couple has been married since. Frances was a charter member of the Yreka Elkettes, and was also a member of the Yreka Rebecca’s.
Gene and Frances owned the Corner Market in Yreka for 25 years, and together they owned and operated several other businesses. Frances and Gene retired in 1990, and travelled in their RV all around the country, and even into Mexico. They also took several cruises into various regions of Canada and Alaska. They were a member of the Elks RV Club. Frances thoroughly enjoyed camping, sewing, cooking, and fishing.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Jerry Cunningham; and sister and brother in law Shirley and Errol Zanella. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Gene Cunningham; son, Larry and Gail Cunningham; grandchildren, Amber Cunningham, Hillary & Art Lozano, Dave & Katie Burgue, and Brianne Palomino; 7 great-grandchildren; her niece, Linda and Lee Norman; and nephews, Jeff Cunningham and Harvey & Marilyn Schuler.
A graveside inurnment is planned for Frances on Monday, July 28, 2014, at Evergreen Cemetery in Yreka at 11:00 a.m, with a potluck reception to follow at the Yreka Elks Lodge. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Madrone Hospice, Inc., 255 Collier Circle, Yreka, CA 96097.
