Jessica transitioned peacefully at home into her next journey after a long and courageous battle with cancer on July 6, 2014. She was surrounded by her family and friends. Jessica was 37 years old. She was born Oct. 14, 1976 in Saginaw MI. She moved to the Lansing area as a young child and attended school in Lansing, Waverly and Haslett.

Jessica graduated from Michigan State University in 2004 with her BA and a certificate in Latin-American studies. She spent the last 10 years of her life as a manager with Buddies Pub and Grill in East Lansing where she befriended countless patrons. Jessica loved her job and was terribly sad when she had to 'retire' due to her cancer but she still picked up occasional shifts for the big games and special occasions.

Jessica was married to Guy Phillip Halsey in October of 2007. They have 2 beautiful children - Jameson Phillip Halsey (5 years) and Stella Lenore Halsey (34 months). She spent the last 2 years as a stay-at-home mom devoted to nurturing the children and teaching them life skills. She took up running just before she was diagnosed with cancer and continued to run throughout most of her fight completing three 5 K runs in the last year.

Besides her husband and children Jessica is survived by her parents Carolyn and William Herrington (Haslett, MI) her brother Joshua Hillsey (Lansing, MI) and her sister Emily Hillsey (Henderson, NC). She is survived by her grandmother Margaret McFay (Sanford, NC) and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Her grandfather John E. McFay predeceased her in December 2013.

Per Jessica's request her body was cremated and there will be no formal funeral services. There will be a Celebration of Life in her honor for family and friends. Please contact a family member or friend for more information. In lieu of flowers the family requests that those who wish to do so make contributions to the children's educational fund or to Wings of Mercy (http://www.wingseastmi.org/) who flew countless missions with Jessica during her treatment at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.
