Lorane Margaret Whitcomb

Lorane Margaret (Moir) Whitcomb 88, of Main Rd. Stamford, VT died Wednesday July 16, 2014 at the Center for Extended Care at Amherst. She was born in North Adams on February 27, 1926 a daughter of the late James and Leona (Yarter) Moir. She attended schools in North Adams and graduated from Drury High School with the class of 1944. She also graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 1948. Mrs. Whitcomb taught in the mathematics department at Drury High School for 28 years retiring in 1990. She was a communicant of St. John Bosco Church in Stamford,VT. She was a member of the North Adams Garden Club and was a past trustee of the Stamford Community Library. Her husband Lewis Matthews Whitcomb whom she married on August 19, 1950 in St. Francis of Assisi Church in North Adams died December 20, 2012. Survivors include two daughters Judith A. Whitcomb and her wife Cheryl Sponburgh of Amherst,MA. and Mary Jane Whitcomb of Bernardston, MA. Two sons J. Michael Whitcomb and his wife Lynda of Derwood, MD and David A. Whitcomb and his wife Donna of Stamford, VT. She was predeceased by a son John Whitcomb who died in infancy. The family wishes to thank At Home TLC and the West 2 staff at CECAA for their tender care and support. A Liturgy of Christian Burial to celebrate the Life of Lorane Whitcomb will take place on Monday, July 21, 2014 at 11:00 AM at St. John Bosco Church in Stamford, VT. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Memorial Donations are suggested for the Stamford Volunteer Fire Department or the Berkshire Humane Society through the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St. North Adams, A.
