Jane Wise Stephenson

Jane Wise Stephenson of Dothan, formerly of Geneva, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2014. She was 83. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Jack Wingate officiating and Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva directing. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 3159 Highway 87, Samson, AL 36477.

Mrs. Stephenson was born in Coffee County, Ala. on February 23, 1931 to the late Marion Dallas Wise and Vera French Wise. She was a longtime member of the Westside United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Kinston High School and the University of Montevallo. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Stephenson taught in the Geneva City School System for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Stephenson, Sr.; two sisters, Johnnie Griffin and Frances Frederick; and brother, Dr. Robert Wise.

She is survived by her daughter, Pat Rudd (John) of Austin, Texas; two sons, James C. “Jimmy” Stephenson, Jr. (Doris) of Satsuma, Ala. and Gerald W. “Jerry” Stephenson (Michelle) of Dothan; six grandchildren, Andrea Rodgers (Jacob) of Theodore, Ala., Ashley Jenkins (Cody) of Mobile, Zane Rudd of Plano, Texas, Kyle Rudd of Austin; Cole Stephenson (Michelle), US Coast Guard, Morgan City, La., and Kristi Stephenson of Dothan; three great grandchildren, Hunter Dale Smith of Clopton, Ala., Anna Grace Rodgers of Theodore and Scotlyn McGuerty of Morgan City, La.; brother, Ellis Wise (Faye) of Samson; one sister-in-law, Connie Wise of Birmingham, AL; and a special niece, Gail Mask of Montgomery. The family would like to extend its gratitude for the care provided by the staff on the 500 Hall at Extendicare Health Center.
