Kenneth N. Johnson, 76, a long-time and well-respected resident of North Bennington, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, July 2, 2014. Ken was an Eagle Scout in Troop 56 and earned the prestigious "God and Country" award in 1951. After high school, he went on to attend Purdue University and graduated from St. Joseph's Business College in Bennington. After working as an accountant at Shea Wood Products, Eagle Square, and Mack Molding, Ken went on to start his own business as a Public Accountant and remained in business for over 40 years. Ken's business was still doing very well at the time of his passing. Ken enjoyed memberships at the Bennington Elks Club and Rod & Gun Club. His favorite activities included collecting a multitude of interesting items, fly-fishing, and hunting. Ken hunted moose and caribou, but loved to hunt deer, bagging over 30 deer, including a 9-point, 200 pound buck in 2002, something he was very proud of. Ken was also a very skilled poker player, with his favorite game being Texas Hold 'Em. In more recent years he loved to spend time with his family, attending his grandchildren's events and activities, and enjoyed many trips to Maine. Ken married the former Mary Hess in Arlington, VT., in 1957. Ken and Mary enjoyed a devoted and loving marriage, raising 3 children together. He is survived by his loving wife Mary, daughter Joanne Peake and her husband David of Georgia, VT., son Keith Johnson of Bennington, son Jamie Johnson of North Bennington, and his two beloved grandchildren, Sydney and Simon Johnson of North Bennington. He also leaves behind his close brother Frank and sister-in-law Rosecile Johnson of Bennington, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
