Dana Keith Fite, age 56, of Smyrna went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 10, 2014.
Born on October 9, 1957 in Lake Charles, LA, he spent some of his childhood in Charleston, SC until moving to Dover, DE with his family at the age of 8 and later graduated from Dover High School. After attending college, Dana became the district manager for Video Scene and later the proud owner/optician of Singer Specs in New Castle.
As a devoted follower of Christ, Dana and his family attended Smyrna Church of Christ until 2004, when they help found Northeast Christian Church in Middletown, DE. He greatly enjoyed teaching children’s church as well as leading worship and volunteering for several church events.
For many years, Dana would spend time with his family and close friends by hiking, camping, and enjoying the great outdoors. Dana loved relaxing at home by cooking, reading history, rooting for the Minnesota Vikings, discovering new music, playing piano and guitar, and wrestling with his dogs Alex, Chief, and Samwise. But what brought the most joy to his heart was spending time with his wife Gail and his daughter Shelby.
Dana was the son of the late Thomas Jackson Fite and Ruth McClendon Fite and was preceded in death by his sister Kimberly Alice Akers.
He will be greatly missed by his wife Gail, with whom he shared a loving marriage of 29 years, his daughter Shelby, his two brothers Jack David of Harpers Ferry, WV and Karl Dwayne of Fairfax, VA, as well as many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to one of Dana’s favorite charities, the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
A service celebrating Dana’s life will be held on Saturday, July 26th at 2:00pm at Townsend Free Will Baptist Church (4519 DuPont Pkwy, Townsend, DE 19734) with visitation one hour prior.
