Arthur Henry Babel

Mr. Arthur Henry Babel, 89, of Lebanon, passed away July 12, 2014, at his residence.

Arthur was born August 21, 1924 in Cincinnati, OH, a son of the now late Arthur Henry Paul and Elizabeth (Fiefhaus) Babel. He married Patricia Lane on May 7, 1966. She died in 2000.

Arthur served in the US Army during WWII from 1941-1944. He was with the 34th Combat Engineers 27th division and served in the Pacific Theater earning the Bronze Star. He later was in the Army reserves for 16 years as a staff sergeant.

Arthur graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelor’s degree in construction. He was a union carpenter for his entire working career. He loved football, hockey and auto racing. He especially liked watching the Ohio State Buckeyes, Detroit Lions and Detroit Redwings. Arthur also loved fishing in Canada with his grandsons, Adam and Brandon. He was a semi-bowler; a fabulous cook and loved gardening, canning. He also loved dogs and birds.

Survivors include his daughter, Jennifer (Brown) Babel of Lebanon; grandchildren, Adam Sutton, Katy (Brown) Cramer, Brandon Sutton and Jay Brown; great grandchildren, Khloey Brown, Ryker Brown, Easton Sutton and Kallie Cramer; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter Kathleen Beckerich Sutton, sister Helen Dette, brother Bob Babel and grandson Bruce Sutton IV.

Father Timothy Kroeger will officiate the Mass of Christian burial on Saturday July 19, 2014 at 1 p.m. in the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 309 W. South St., Lebanon, IN 46052. Arthur will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Lebanon. Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary is handling the arrangements.
