Alfred A. DiLeo

U.S. Veteran

Alfred A. DiLeo, a resident of Pawling, NY, and loving husband and father, passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Westchester Medical Center, surrounded by his family; he was 94.

Born on March 2, 1920 in New York City, he was the son of Dominick and Grace (Caponegro) DiLeo, who resided in West New York, NJ, where Alfred graduated from Memorial High School in 1939. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on January 5, 1942, and was discharged in1945, having served in New Guinea and Okinawa in World War II, where he was awarded 3 Bronze Stars, the Asian-Pacific Campaign Medal, the Philippines Liberation Medal, and the American Campaign Medal.

In 1946, he joined General Motors in NYC where he was employed for 6 years.

On September 13, 1947, he married Louise R. Martino of Brooklyn, NY at St. Francis Church. In 1952, he was employed at Bendix Corp. in Teterboro, NJ for 18 years as a Cost Accountant. He was a Volunteer for the Ridgefield Fire Dept. in NJ for 18 years, a 3rd Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus Council #6318 in Carmel, NY for 25 years, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars since 1973. In 1971, he purchased Fred’s Market in Carmel, NY, where he and his family worked for 13 years. In 1983, he and his wife retired and moved to Pawling, NY and was a member of St. John’s Church.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Louise; his daughter, Janet Hanrahan, and her husband, Michael, of Poughkeepsie; two sons, Alfred and his wife, Jean, of Stormville and Michael and his wife, Danuta, of Poughquag; and grandsons, Brandon DiLeo and Jonathan DiLeo of Boston, MA.

Family and friends may call at the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling, Wednesday, July 16th from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 AM at St. John’s Church, 39 East Main Street, Pawling. Entombment follows in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Putnam Valley, NY.
