Beloved aunt and friend to many, age 87, passed at St. Joseph's Hospital, from her earthly life to Heaven to join her brothers Carmen and Lidio Sorino as well as sister Mary (Sorino) Miller on July 9, 2014. Vincee was born at home on February 12, 1927 to her Italian immigrant parents, John and Josephine (Pertruciani) Sorino, Delaware Ave. Elmira, NY and was a lifelong resident there. Vincee worked at Remington Rand until her pioneering spirit took her on the Phoebe Show to Nursing school in NYC. It was there that she learned her lifelong trade as a wonderful and caring RN. Vincee worked her entire career (40-plus years) at Elcor Nursing Facility, while mentoring many young healthcare professionals. She truly loved her work and retired from Elcor at age 83. Not one to sit around, Vincee immediately took classes and became a certified Ombudsman. Vincee also enjoyed traveling, cooking, baking, gardening, crafting, and a fun trip to the casino. Scratch-off tickets were even included in her physical therapy. More than anything Vincee loved a good party with family and friends. She was a life-long member of St. Mary's church, a member of the former Mochi club, and member of the Sacred Heart Society. She enjoyed working at church festivals, playing bocce ball, and socializing at the IAV. Vincee is survived by her nephews and nieces, John (Carol) Miller of Henrico, VA, Virginia (George) Harrison of Halfmoon, NY, Janice Miller of Clifton Park, NY, Jacquelyn French of Elmira, NY, Jennifer (Mike) Alvero of Cape Coral, FL, and John (Teri) Sorino of Troy, NY; great nephews and nieces, Zachary (Evon) Harrison, Olivia (Steven) Claypool, Danielle McKain and Jason French, Amy Alvaro, Christopher Alvaro, Dan, Justin, Mikaela, and Scott Sorino, Kristen (Lee) Householder, Lisa (John) Nagle, and Elizabeth (Brett) Siebenhar; sister-in-law Lula Sorino; along with many great-great nieces and nephews, and many other dear friends, especially life-long friend and neighbor, Dorothy Ames. Friends and family are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. in Elmira/Southport, NY on Sunday, July 13, 2014 from 4-6 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary's Church 224 Franklin St., Elmira on Monday at 10 AM. Interment will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Vincee's memory to St. Mary's Church and St. Joseph's Hospital or a charity of one's choice. The family would like to thank all of the C-3 and 4th floor staff at St. Joseph's Hospital for the wonderful care she received. Missy's guestbook may be signed in Obituaries at www.olthof.com.
