O. A. Loe On July 10, 2014 Oather Arvis Loe, 90, traded in his Tuxedo, also known as his overalls, for a robe to join his Lord and Savior. Born in Bodcaw, AR to Ben F. and Edith Baker Loe on October 13, 1923 he was 1 of 8 children.
Mr. Loe was a Christian and loved to praise his Lord in word and in song. He was a Charter Member of Unity Missionary Baptist Church and during his children’s lives attended Immanuel Baptist Church. He was later baptized in to the Church of Christ and attended Cullendale Church of Christ. He was a Sunday School teacher, Baptist Training Service teacher, Men’s Brotherhood teacher.
Quite the musician, Arvis taught himself to play the acoustic guitar. He formed a small band while in the Tinian Islands and played for many of our service men and women up until his guitar was stolen. However, in 1958 his guitar was found in a pawn shop by a fellow serviceman and returned to him.
He was retired from the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department where he was a welder.
He served his country well. Serving in the U.S. Air Force, he stood guard of the Enola Gay on August 5, 1945, just hours prior to the bombing of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 52 years, Doris Turbush Loe, brothers, Ben, Arthur, Herley and Hoyle “Shorty” Loe as well as his daughter-in-law, Teresa Hensley Loe.
O.A.is survived by his wife of 17 years, Ruby Lester Loe, his daughters, Debra Miller ( Ray) of Jacksonville, AR, Leona Kay Loe of E. Camden, Diane Garner (Mike) of Rome, GA; son, Lawrence N. Loe (Connie) of Little Rock, AR; grandchildren, Medrith Longorio-Loe (Rico) of San Antonio, TX, Robin Terrell (Bud) of Cabot, AR, Ami Jackson (Drew) of Little Rock, Lawrence O. Loe of Little Rock, Scott Johnson (Amanda) of Cabot, AR, Luke Wyatt (Kathleen) of Bryant, AR Michael Garner (Emily) of Thomasville, GA, and Cary Garner (Lana) of Grayson, GA. He had 13 great grandchildren; his most recent being Little Miss Elliott Quinn Wyatt born on July 2. His siblings, sister, Betty McClane (Boyce) of Camden, brothers, Oris D. “Bit” Loe of Henderson, TX, Dalton Lee Loe (Evorie) of Prescott as well as a host of nieces, nephews, many cousins and a myriad of other family and friends.
Services will be Saturday, July 12, 2014 2:00PM at Proctor Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday from 6PM to 8PM at the funeral home.
