Melvin Henry Kent (aka Kantowski)

Mel passed away on May 2, 2014 after a long battle with cancer surrounded by family and friends at Northside Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. He is survived by his loving wife, Lynn (nee Jenkyns) Kent and his loving son, Randall, who was always the light of his life.

He was born Melvin Henry Kantowski in Buffalo, N.Y. on January 1, 1942 to the late Henry and Frances (nee Blachowski) Kantowski. He is survived by his sisters, Eleanore Kantowski, and Janice (Harold) Sugg. He was predeceased by his sister, late Norma (Richard) Warner. He is survived by six nieces and nephews, James (Carter) Warner, Sue (Rick) Gilbert, Linda (Matthew) Jenkins, and Kevin (Colleen) Sugg., and his two godchildren, David (Debbie) Warner and Laura  (Jeff Jasinski) Sugg.

Mel spent the first 32 years of his life in Buffalo where he graduated from Canisius College, joined the Air Force Reserves, and enjoyed working in sales. After moving to Atlanta, he became a sales manager and in 1995 he fulfilled a life-long dream of becoming a lawyer. Later, Mel enjoyed traveling across the country, representing various companies at trade shows.

Mel eternally touched the lives of many by bringing people together through his storytelling and contagiously positive attitude. He was always out to have a good time and was full of laughter and joy. He was also known to be his own biggest fan.

Family will be present Sunday, July 20th from 4-8 PM at the Pietszak Funeral Home, 2400 William St. (near Harlem). Relatives and friends are invited to St. Stanislaus Parish (123 Townsend St) Monday at 10 AM.

Burial will follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Cheektowaga, New York.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Melvin H. Kent Scholarship Fund c/o Canisius College Development Office 2001 Main Street, Buffalo, NY 14208.
