Earl Nichols, 88 of Marianna, Florida went home to be with the Lord on July 7, 2014 at his residence surrounded by loved ones. Earl was born in Malvern, Alabama on May 22, 1926 to Will and Pink (Thomley) Nichols. A United States Army veteran of WWII, he was known by many as the “Sweet Potato Man”, and was a minister of the Church of God for over 46 years. He was also employed by Standard Oil for 22 years and drove a school bus for the Jackson County School Board for 8 years. He was preceded in death by his parents: Will and Pink Nichols; daughter: Barbara Scott. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Louise (Summerlin) Nichols of Marianna, Florida; two sons: Donnie Nichols of Marianna, Florida, Clayton Nichols and wife Angele of Cottondale, Florida; two daughters: Patricia Williams of Marianna, Florida, Cheryl Barwick and husband James of Grand Ridge, Florida; ten grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2p.m. Friday, July 11, 2014 at Marianna Church of God on South Jefferson Street in Marianna, Florida with Rev. James Barwick, Rev. Jack Howell, and Rev. Lavon Caraway officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-7p.m. Thursday, July 10, 2014 at Marianna Church of God and one hour prior to the service on Friday, July 11, 2014. Pallbearers asked to serve: Chris Nichols, Tim Hummel, Jim Whitman, Craig Grice, Jerry Sanders, Jimmy Young, Larry Morse, and GregBird. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Marianna, Florida. Obert Funeral Home of Chipley directing.
