Philip Matthew Mogavero, 82, of Pittsfield, passed away on Saturday, July 5, 204, surrounded by his loving family. Philip was born in New York City on Oct. 23, 1931, son of Joseh and Frances (DeCarlo) Mogavero. He graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1950 and attended the former Berkshire Business College, now known as Berkshire Community College. Philip was employed by General Electric for over 35 years and held various positions. He retired in 1992 as a producation analyst. Prior to joining GE, he was the proprietor of "Mogavero's Bakery," a family business. In his younger years, he delivered bread to local families on his bicycle with his brother. Philip was a member of the Sons of Italy ITAM Lodge 564, The Italian American Club, the Central Berkshire Holy Name Society and was an active former member of Mount Carmel Church. He was a communicant of St. Mark Church. He served with the Air Force National Guard in 1951 and was honorably discharged in 1958. He was an avid and extremely loyal Yankees fan. Phil was a gentle man until somone criticized his beloved Yankees! He enjoyed playing a variety of card games and bocce, and looked forward to winters at his home in Florida with the joy of his wife, Kathy. Phil was a devoted husband to Katherine (Cariddi) Mogavero of North Adams for 56 years. They celebrated their 50th anniversary on April 26, 2008, at The Williams Inn. Besides his wife, he is survived by four children, a daughter, Frances English and her husband, James, of Westford, Mass.; his son, Philip Mogavero and his wife, Lauren, of Florham Park, N.J., his daughter, Lisa Candelet and her husband, George, of Pittsfield, and his daughter, Nancy Amato and her husband, Anthony, of Westford. He was the beloved "Nonno" of his 12 grandchildren of whom he was so proud and with whom he loved spending time: Brian and Danielle English, Gina, Philip and Raquel Mogavero, Michael, Jaclyn, Mitchell and Myles Candelet, and Jenna, Anthony and Stephanie Amato. He is also survived by his brother, Joseph Mogavero of Pittsfield. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be Thursday, July 10, 2014, at 9 a.m. from the FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield, MA 01201 A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Mark Church, with the Rev. Geoffery J. Deeker, C.S.S. officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Michael the Archangel Mausoleum at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday, July 9, from 4 to 7 p.m. Members of the Central Berkshire Holy Name Society will meet at 3:45 p.m. for a prayer service.
