Robert M. Reedy, 79 Harrisonburg

Robert Marshall Reedy, 79, passed away July 2, 2014 at the University of Virginia Hospital. Mr. Reedy was born on October 10, 1934 in Rockingham County and was the son of the late John Edward and Susan V. Corbin Reedy. He served in the United States Army and was a member of the American Legion Post 27. He worked for McCroy’s Stores in Virginia and West Virginia and operated the Chuck Wagon Catering Service for 20 years. Mr. Reedy owned and operated Hydro-Spray Car Wash for 27 years and later worked in Real Estate Rental Properties. He also worked a few years for the Harrisonburg Auto Auction. He was involved in many civic organizations as a member of the Harrisonburg Elks Lodge B.P.O.E 450, the College Park, Maryland Moose Lodge #453 and the Harrisonburg Eagles #4150. He was a member of the West Side Baptist Church. On December 29, 1971, he married Jean Smith Reedy who preceded him in death on March 30, 2013. Surviving are a step daughter, Regina Dispanet and husband J.P Dispanet, Lost City, West Virginia; four sisters, Helen Craun, Riverdale, Maryland; Charlotte Whetzel and husband Russell of Linville; Thelma Ritchie and husband John; and Nancy Lam and husband Carter all of Singers Glen; one step grandson, James Dispanet II, Florida; a sister in law, Lucille Reedy of Linville. Mr. Reedy was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Zirkle and brothers, John, Paul, Warren and Franklin Reedy. Reverend Charles P. Anderson, Jr. and Wendell “Sonny” Henkel will conduct a funeral on Sunday, July 6, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the McMullen Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Mausoleum at East Lawn Memorial Gardens with military rites by the American Legion Post 27. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening, July 5, 2014 at the funeral home from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Open Door Gospel Church, 940 Chicago Avenue, Harrisonburg, Virginia 22802 or to the Harrisonburg-Rockingham SPCA, PO Box 413, Harrisonburg, Virginia 22803.
