L.J. Simms was born October 6, 1922 to his parents in Austin, Texas, and passed away July 2, 2014, in Lamar, Arkansas, at the age of 91. He served 21 months with the United States 8th Air Force in England as group bombsight and auto pilot control officer. He received a BBA degree in Accounting from the University of Texas in 1948; worked for the University of Texas as an Auditor Administrative Assistant in the Mental Health Division of the Texas State Department of Health; an Examiner with the Federal Bureau of Credit Unions; Owner of Massey Hardware from 1962 to 1981; Commissioner with Arkansas Motor Vehicle Commission from 1993-1999; a member of the Clarksville Rotary Club since 1962 serving as President and Financial Secretary and awarded the "Paul Harris Fellow" award; and a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1942.
He is preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children: Lois Vardaman Simms, and his parents: L.J. Simms Sr. and Margaritte Wright Simms.
He is survived by his wife: Betty Resimont Simms, two sons: John Simms of Saunderstown, Rhode Island and Tommy Simms of Fort Smith, Arkansas; two step-sons: Michael Weathers and Jeff Resimont; a sister: Margaritte Gould of Bastrop, Texas; and four grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2014, at Hardwicke Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Amos Pledger officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Clarksville, Arkansas. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., Friday, July 4, 2014, at the Hardwicke Funeral Home in Clarksville, Arkansas.
