Richard “Dick” E. Winbigler

U.S. Veteran

Passed away on the evening of June 28, 2014 at St. Joseph's Hospital in St. Paul. Dick was born January 22, 1934 also at St. Joe's. Dick is preceded in death by his parents Dorothy Josephine (Hanson) and Chauncy Harris Winbigler (who worked and met at St. Joes), children Michael and Ann Winbigler and Lisa (Steve) Gaudette. Dick graduated from Cretin High School in 1952, received a Bachelor of Science in Forestry (1957) from the University of Minnesota and was proud of his honorable military service. Survived by his loving wife Audrey, son Mathew (Andrea), stepdaughter Melissa (Andrew) Hamlin and grandchildren; Aspen and Elsa Winbigler, Julia, Joshua & Brendan Hamlin; brother James (Jacqueline), sister-in-law Linda (Jeffrey) Bader, brother-in-law Stephen (Karen) Hempel, and many loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Dick passed his love of the outdoors, campfires, toys, woodworking, metal smithing, guns, knives, lighters, arrows, cars, trains, bikes, hikes, history, antiquing and mischief on to those around him. He was always at peace along the shores of Lake Superior hunting agates or floating in an inner tube. Dick's family extends the deepest of thanks to Sharon Serie and the St. Joe's cardiac rehab and ICU staff for their kind and loving support. A visitation will be held at O'Halloran & Murphy Funeral Home (575 S. Snelling Ave., St. Paul) 651-698-0796 on July 2nd in the evening from 4 to 8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Lumen Christi Catholic Church on July 3rd at 10 am with visitation one hour prior to Mass.. Dick will be buried at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on July 7th. Consider a donation to celebrate Dick's love of Minnesota State Parks by sending or leaving a memorial at the Funeral Home.
