Rebecca was born on April 4, 1958 in Tracy, MN. On Wednesday, June 18, she passed away at the age of 56 in Tempe, AZ.
Becky will be best remembered as a loving mother and a loyal friend. Much of her career was focused on administrative management, with her most recent position held at the ASU College of Law. She was highly respected among her peers and professors, who were all saddened by her early retirement. Outside of work Becky spent much of her time volunteering with the local chapter of Girl Scouts and singing in the church choir. She enjoyed reading, cross word puzzles, cross-stitch and crocheting. Sitting down with a warm blanket, a mountain dew, the cat on her lap and a good movie was her idea of a good night in. Becky found her greatest joy in time spent with her grandchildren and at family gatherings. In her final days she spent time reminiscing over pictures and sharing stories with the family.
Becky was raised by Richard and Pearl Van de Wiele in the small town of Walnut Grove, MN. She was raised on the farm with two brothers, Mike and Randy Van de Wiele. She cherished memories from her childhood, especially those of her grandmother, Gunhild “Grandma Gunny” Johnson.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Mark Tanghe, her ten children: Lori Sanderson (Tim Sanderson), Amy Tanghe, Jud Beierman (Elizabeth Beierman), Amanda Martinez, Krista Walerius (Paul Walerius), Jasmine Stanfill (Chad Stanfill), Andrea Tanghe, Alicia Tanghe, Fernando (Jr) Tanghe and Alexis Tanghe. She is also survived by her sixteen cherished grandchildren, Logan and Brooke Sanderson; Alicia, Fernando, Alexis and Preston Tanghe, Leticia, Vanessa, Korina and Kira Martinez, Keiton, Kendall, Mya and Maverick Walerius, Camdyn and Blake Stanfill.
Funeral services will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Tempe, AZ at 11:00 am on Tuesday June 24th. A reception will immediately follow in Henley Hall at the church. A memorial service will be held at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall, MN on Monday June 30th (time to be determined) with a reception to follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Arizona Humane Society in the name of Rebecca Tanghe.
