Richard A. Simchick, 70, of 1625 Bendigo Rd., Johnsonburg, died Thursday evening, June 12, 2014 at West Penn Hospital, Forbes Hospice, Pittsburgh following a lengthy illness.
He was born June 26, 1943 in Johnsonburg, son of the late Francis and Eleanor Przybylski Simchick. On Jan. 29, 1966 in Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg, he married Georgiana Cherry, who preceded him in death Jan. 23, 2013. He resided in Johnsonburg all his life and graduated from Johnsonburg High School in 1961.
He was a member of Holy Rosary Church, a former member of the Johnsonburg Knothole Association, the Elk County Christian Mothers, Fathers and Friends Association and the Johnsonburg Recreation Board. He was a loving father and grandfather. He was an avid Cleveland Browns fan, he played quarterback on the high school football team and loved to get together with family to watch and participate in all types of athletics. He also loved hunting and fishing.
He had been employed by Penntech Papers for over 40 years. He is survived by a son, Christopher Simchick and his wife Tanya of Pittsburgh; a daughter, Lynn Buttery of St. Marys; four grandchildren, Zachary and Morgan Simchick, and Sophia and Maximus Buttery; three sisters, Catherine, Mrs. Clifford Snyder of St. Marys, Dorothy, Mrs. Thomas Mitchell of St. Marys, and Ruth "Ruthy," Mrs. Michael Bowes of Ridgway; a sister-in-law, Roselyn Simchick of Kenhierst; and a brother-in-law, Terry Myers of Kane. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph and Sylvester Simchick; and a sister, Lucille "Lucy" Myers.
A Funeral Service for Richard A. Simchick will be conducted at the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home, 401 Chestnut St., Johnsonburg on Wednesday, June 18 at 10 a.m. Officiating will be Rev. David J. Wilson, Pastor of Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Johnsonburg. Friends will be received at the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m.
