Dr. John C. Colletta, 60, of Fallbrook, Calif. passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2014. He died peacefully at home with his wife after a prolonged illness. A Fallbrook resident for 24 years, he is survived by his wife, Noelle, daughter Megan, son Alexander, father Robert, sister Kim Calma, brothers Robert and Bill.
He was born in 1954 in Alhambra, Calif. to Robert and Joanna Colletta. Raised in the same neighborhood as his cousins, aunts and uncles, he had a very happy childhood. John graduated from Alhambra High School, obtained his bachelor's degree at the University of California, Santa Barbara, before receiving his doctorate in chiropractic from LACC. After meeting on a blind date, he married his wife Noelle at our Lady of Mount Carmel in Montecito, Calif. God blessed them with two children and 31 happy years of marriage.
After starting a successful practice in Arcadia, Calif., the quest for land and blue skies drew him to Fallbrook, where he purchased two acres, and built a home and raised his two beautiful children. He loved being outdoors and taking care of his avocado orchard and beautiful garden with palm trees and rare cycads, all planted with his loving hands.
A devoted husband and father, John mirrored the example set by his loving parents. He had a wry sense of humor, usually self deprecating, was an avid reader, loved history and music, especially the Beatles. He deeply cared about others and had a way of instantly forming connections.
John was truly a remarkable person who touched so many lives. He was a deeply spiritual man who faced life's toughest challenges with dignity, courage and grace. Though deeply private about his illness, he continued to provide comfort and encouragement to others in their struggles.
He will be profoundly missed.
A funeral mass will be held for John at the Old Mission, San Luis Rey on Tuesday, June 17 at 1:30 p.m. Interment follows in the Old Mission San Luis Rey cemetery.
