Francesca Salerno, 92, of 203 Clarion Road, Johnsonburg, died Wednesday night (June 11, 2014) at Elk Haven Nursing Home, St. Marys, after a lengthy illness.
She was born Nov. 17, 1921 in Nicosea, Sicily, a daughter of the late Frank and Maria Camerano Costanzo. On Sept. 14, 1955 in Nicosea, Sicily, she married Anthony Salerno, who died March 30, 2005.
She attended school in Sicily and resided in Johnsonburg since her marriage.
She was a member of Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg. She loved spending time at home with her family. She was employed by IPM for several years. She was a homemaker and a seamstress.
She is survived by her sons, Joseph (Cindy) Salerno of Kane and Robert (Mary) Salerno of Pensacola, Fla.; a daughter, Anna Taylor of St. Marys; a daughter-in-law, Patty Salerno of BelAir, Md.; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Frank Salerno; brothers, Antonio, Santo and Giuseppe Costanzo; and sisters, Mary Costanzo and Josephine Gaetano.
Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home at 401 Chestnut St., Johnsonburg. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Anthony Ferragine Funeral Home with the Rev. Philip Pinczewski, pastor of St. Callistus Parish, Kane, officiating. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Johnsonburg.
