Silas Donald Ratliff, age 74 of Riverton, WV, passed away on Friday, June 6, 2014 at his residence. He was born in Pikeville, KY on July 5, 1939, the son of Stonie and Ona Mae (Blackburn) Ratliff. On December 22, 1961, Donald married Alice Gae (Harper) Ratliff, who survives in Riverton.
Mr. Ratliff was a graduate of Johns Creek High School and he attended Barber University in Bladensburg, MD. He was a member of the North Fork Baptist Church and he retired from Ratliff Construction Company where he worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator. He had worked for the National Park Service where he did tree trimming in Washington, DC. He also was a former coal miner and an Arborist in the White House.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Ratliff is survived by: a daughter, Sheri Lynn Ratliff of Odenton, MD; 3 sons, Brian Keith Ratliff and wife Jeanette of Riverton, WV, Vernon Stacy Ratliff of Singers Glen, Va, Douglas Ray Ratliff of Riverton; a sister, Joan Edmonds of Zebulon, KY; 2 brothers, Howard Ratliff of Johns Creek, KY, Hillard Ratliff and wife Louise of Hagerstown, MD; and 2 grandchildren, Benjamin Stonie and Brittany Star Ratliff. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Foster Ratliff.
Mr. Ratliff's family will receive friends on Monday, June 9, 2014, 6-8 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. John Woods officiating. Interment will be in North Fork Memorial Cemetery, Riverton, WV. Memorials may be made to charity of choice.
