Joseph Patrick Gallagher, 87, a lifelong resident of Framingham died Monday, June 2, 2014 at Metrowest Medical Center, Framingham. He was the husband of the late Marilyn (Burke) Gallagher who died in 1989. Born in Framingham, he was the son of the late Patrick and Mary (Shortall) Gallagher.

He attended St. Stephen School in Framingham and was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Milford.

During WWII, he served in the U.S. Army.

Before retiring, he worked at Roxbury Carpet in Saxonville and Framingham Fruitland in Framingham.

He was an avid New England Patriots and Red Sox fan. He also treasured time watching his grandsons in baseball, hockey, soccer and lacrosse. He loved spending time at his home in Dennisport tending to his flowers.

He is survived by four daughters, Susan Fritz and her husband Michael of MD, Coreen Gallagher and her husband Paul Carroll of Framingham, Karen Carroll and her husband Robert of CA and Maureen Coutu and her husband Richard of RI; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandsons. He is also survived by his sister Jean Gallagher and his sister-in-law Mary (McLaughlin) Gallagher both of Framingham and his many nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Thomas, James and Margaret Gallagher and Ann Pizzo.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral on Friday, June 6, 2014 at 9 AM from the Norton Funeral Home, 53 Beech St, (Corner of Union Ave.) Framingham, followed by his funeral Mass at 10 AM in St. Stephen's Church, 251 Concord St. (Rt. 126), in Framingham. Burial will follow at St. Stephen Cemetery, Framingham.

Visiting hours at the funeral home will be Thursday from 4 – 7 PM.
