Erik Joseph Tingey, 20 of Florence, Colorado, died Monday June 2, 2014, as a result of drowning. He and a group of friends were swimming at the Blue Heron Pond, near Florence, when he became entangled in the weeds at the bottom. He was born August 9, 1993, in Afton, Wyoming, the son of Darrin and Tonya (Goff) Tingey. He and his family moved from Woodruff, Utah, in 2002 where he continued his education in the Florence schools. Erik graduated from Florence High School in 2012, where he was an honor student and was an active player on the State Championship Football Team. He was currently enrolled at CSU-Pueblo majoring in Psychology where he was an honor student, having made the dean's list three semesters. Erik was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is survived by his parents Darrin and Tonya of Florence; sister, Melissa (BYU, Cambodia internship) and 4 brothers Thomas and Samantha (Smiley) of Provo, Utah, Jonathan, currently serving a mission for the church in the North Carolina, Raleigh Mission, Andrew and Alex, both at home. He also leaves his maternal grandparents, Tom and Linda Goff, of Florence; and his paternal grandparents, Wes and Dorothy Tingey of Woodruff, Utah. He is also survived by several aunts and uncles and lots of cousins. Erik was so loved and added a quick smile, a laugh and a sparkle to anyone's eye who knew him. He was a great friend and lived life to the fullest. He is on to his next adventure. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Harwood Mortuary in Florence. The funeral will be held on Monday, June 9 at 3 pm with the public viewing at 2 pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1435 Elm Ave, Canon City. Donations are being taken at the office of Dr. David Smith, 100 S Pikes Peak, Florence, CO. 81226, Dr. Jared Smith, 618 Main and Dr. Phillip Pontious, 1204 Main both of Canon City, 81212 for those wishing to assist the family with the funeral arrangements.
