Robert Harry Martin

Robert Harry Martin 75 years of age, of Salmon, Idaho passed away Saturday, May 31, 2014 at the Discovery Care Centre after a long battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. He was born March 15, 1939 in Pocatello, Idaho to Harry Martin and Anna Tolson Martin. Shortly after graduating from Pocatello High School in 1957, he joined the Marine Corp and served three years. He attended Idaho State University and Oregon State University graduating in 1967 with a degree in Forest Engineering. He began his career with the U.S. Forest Service in Twin Falls, Idaho in 1968 and transferred to Fairfield, Idaho in 1969 to the Fairfield Ranger District Station for four years where he worked at the Rangers office and as a snow ranger. He was relocated to the Leadore Ranger District, where he continued his work that included: range land, timber, livestock and fire crews. He transferred to the North Fork Ranger District for twelve years, where he was in charge of the Wilderness area and the Salmon River. In 1991 he was transferred to the Salmon Supervisors office, where he was in charge of forest fires and later he was managing the cleanup of the Cobalt Mine area. He retired in 1999 from a lifelong job that he dearly loved. He enjoyed fishing in our area with his wife Sue and loved to visit Yellowstone National Park. He is survived by wife of 53 years, Sue Martin, children: Donna (Bernabe) Ortega of Rigby, Idaho, Linda (Bill) Kriskey of Elko, Nevada and Brenda (Max) Bowen of Newell, South Dakota; sister Gwen (Dennis) Pedersen of Fort Collins, Colorado; three grandchildren: Anthony, Steven & Taylor Ortega; two great-grandchildren: Kaeli and Brayden; two nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents Harry Martin and Anna (Tolson) Martin. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Salmon Valley Baptist Church with viewing one hour before services. Burial will be in the Salmon Cemetery with Military Honors by the American Legion Lloyd Shaw Post #67 and the Idaho Honor Guard. Arrangements are under the direction of the Jones & Casey Funeral Home of Salmon.
