Douglas Thomas Holland, Jr. (Sonny) entered eternal rest with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 10, 2014 at the Veterans Administration Hospice and Palliative Care Community Living Center, Menlo Park, CA following a brief battle with prostate cancer. Doug was born in Wilmington, DE. To the late Douglas Thomas Holland Sr. and Constance Laws Holland on Sept. 30, 1949. Doug was preceded in death by his parents and sister – Marlene O. Holland of Wilmington. DE. He was of graduate Howard High School, Wilmington. DE. The United States Marine Corp. Graduate Program and Washington State University. While serving in the Marine Corp. Doug was deployed to The Republic of Vietnam where he fought valiantly for his country as a medic and rifleman On May 10, 1969, Doug's unit was ambushed and he was severely wounded, as a result of his service he was awarded several medals including the Purple Heart. Doug having worked many years at Kaiser Medical Center was a retired neonatal respiratory therapist. His contagious smile, love of music and zest for life touched many lives and his memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of many. He is survived by his children - Stephen Jones of Wilmington, DE. E-4 Douglas T. Holland 111, USN ( Claudia ) San Diego,Ca. and Meme Weber Of Tacoma, WA. One granddaughter Acacia Poteat Jones. His loving Companion Kazuyo Taniqawa, Hayward CA. A special cousin who was like a son Robert A. Beard (Courtney) New Castle, DE. Two sisters - Jacqueline P.Wright, Winston – Salem, N.C and Marva E. Sturgis, Wilm. De. Lifelong friends Warren (Junie) Roy, Las Vegas, NV and Edwin German Brooklyn, NY. Several nieces, a nephew, many cousins and friends. Full Military Honors Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held Thursday. June 19, 2014 -11 am at the Veterans Administration Community Living Center – Bldg 360-E, 795 Willow Rd. Menlo Park CA. with Interment Friday June 20, 2014 - Interment Friday June 20, 2014- 12:30pm .San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, Santa Nella, CA. Funeral arrangements provided by the San Jose Funeral Services. (408-288-8383) The family extends their appreciation to Dr. Barbara Egan, Dr.Maria Frooqi, Alicia Hernandez, Vanessa Nuri, Shelia Kennedy ,Fr. Craig David, Chaplains Tittle and Staples, and the staffs of Palo Alto and Menlo Park Veterans Administration Facilities for the caring, compassion and love given to Doug and our family during his illness and our bereavement.
