Joan (Nell) Bell

(Nell) Joan Bell, 85 of Midland, passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2014 at Midland Memorial Hospital. She was born August 26, 1928 in Littlefield, Texas to Sidney G. Pace and Ivy Pearl Pace. She married Foy D. Bell April 19, 1948 in Littlefield. To this union was born Foy (Randy) Randolph Bell, Rhonda Ann Bell Glover, and Sidney Rex Bell. She was preceded in death by her husband Foy and sons, Randy and Rex. Joan was one of ten children born to Sidney and Pearl Pace; Roy Ansel Pace, Virginia Ruth Pace Zachary, John Pace, Sidney Elizabeth Pace Hall, Iris Pace Jennings, Ruby Lehman Pace Jones, Ronald Lynn Pace, Sherry Pace Simpson Johnson, and Judith June Pace Ward. She is survived by her daughter Rhonda Glover of Odessa; grandsons, Randall Cavender and wife Melissa and their daughter Annaleise, Jason and Michael Bell, Mason and Justin Bell all of Odessa and Ruben Bell and wife Brendy and their sons Luke and Nick Bell of Woodward, Oklahoma: Joan’s siblings, Sidney Elizabeth Hall of Lubbock, Lehman Jones, and Ron Pace of Littlefield, Sherry Johnson and husband Bill of Houston, TX, and Judith Ward and husband Dale of Levelland, TX; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. Foy and Joan lived in various places in the West Texas-New Mexico area before Foy’s retirement in 1991 from Permian Corporation. On retirement in 1991, they made their home in Midland. Joan was an active member of Fairmont Park Church of Christ. She worked at various times of her life in such occupations as a telephone operator, selling drilling mud and chemicals and as a hostess and cashier at the Barn Door in Odessa. Her friendship will be missed by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Pearl Pace Reading Lab c/o Dr. Ronna Pribett Department of Humanities at Lubbock Christian University, 5601 19th ST, Lubbock, Texas 79407 Viewing will be from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Lewallen-Garcia-Pipkin Funeral Home. Receiving of friends will also take place Wednesday evening from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Funeral service is set for Thursday, May 29, 2014 at 10:00 am at Fairmont Park Church of Christ, 3813 N. Midland Dr., with Ministers Don Mitchell and Bill Johnson officiating. A graveside service will follow at 3:00 pm at Memorial Park in Littlefield, Texas.
