Mr. Frank “Les” Myers age 92 of Gibbs Rd. Blairsville passed away peacefully on Saturday May 24, 2014 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Mr. Myers was born on Nov. 2, 1921 in Woodbury, NJ., the son of the late Raymond Myers and the late Hattie Miller Myers. Les was an active member and speaker of the Blairsville Gideon’s. He was also an active member of the Union County Lions Club and a Melvin Jones Fellow. Les served in the US Navy during WWII. He served in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. His awards and medals include the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal with one star, European African Campaign Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, WWII Victory Medal and the 3rd Fleet Unit Commendation Medal. Les was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents and also a brother, Charles Myers and a sister, Ina Lucas. Les was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Blairsville and an active member of the Methodists Men’s Group. He was also involved with the Fidelis Sunday School Class. Surviving Mr. Myers are his loving wife of sixty nine years, Marjorie Cardwell Myers of Blairsville, one son and daughter in law, Donald L. and Louise Myers of Tuckerton, NJ., two daughters and one son in law, Barbara A. and Bill Gibson of Medford, NJ., Susan Angley of Blairsville, seven grandchildren, Frank, Will, Corey, Jennifer, Greta, Emily and Briana, thirteen great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, many other relatives and friends also survive. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday May 28, 2014 at 12:00pm from the Mountain View Chapel with the Rev. Mark Burgess officiating. Special music will be presented by John Gurley. The North GA. Honor Guard will conduct Military Honors. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be members of the Union County Lions Club. Interment will follow in the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10-12pm. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church or to the Gideons International Blairsville Chapter in memory of Mr. Myers.
