Homer Bailey, 86, of Evarts, passed away Saturday, May 24, 2014, at the Harlan Health and Rehabilitation Center following a long illness. Born May 8, 1928 in Leslie County, he had lived here most of his life. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II. Homer was a retired security guard and believed in the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Neff Bailey; his parents, Robert Bailey and Vinia Huff Bailey; two sister, Opal Bailey Cox and Agnes Bailey; and three brothers, Harley, Herbert, and Earl Bailey.
Survivors include two sons, Chris Bailey, Evarts; Robert Bailey and wife, Shirley, Campton, KY; a grandson, Tyler Bailey; three sisters, Christine Kirk and Irene Bailey, both of Jonesville, VA; Lorene Jones, Harlan; two brothers, George Bailey and Clark Bailey, both of Jonesville; and a host of other family and friends.
Visitation will be held Saturday, May 31, 2014, beginning at 11 a.m. with funeral services at 1 p.m. at the Evarts Funeral Home. The Reverend Bill Moore will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Neff Cemetery at Pounding Mill with military rites by the Harlan Honor Guard. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
