Elmer Andrew A. Bachman, age 91, of Elkhart, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2014 at his daughter’s home in Beaufort, South Carolina. Elmer was born December 23, 1922 in Fernwood, Wisconsin to the late Paul and Clara (Weisman) Bachman. Elmer married Loretta Smith on October 3, 1942. She preceded him in death, passing away in March of 2012. Survivors include his children, Connie (James) Kegerreis of Vicksburg, Mississippi, Dianna Raeder of Beaufort, South Carolina, and John (Patty) Bachman of Elkhart, Indiana as well as 8 grandchildren; Johnny (Lindsay), Matthew, Andrew and Michael Bachman, Clifford (Elise) Raeder, Mandy Wilson, Robert (Kim) Kegerreis and Kelly (Dan) Townsend. Also surviving are 13 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren and his brother, Harold Bachman of Mishawaka. Elmer was preceded in death by his siblings William and Donald Bachman, Louise Hay and Wilhelmina Beber, as well as his son-in-law Clifford Raeder. Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm Friday, May 23, 2014 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola. Funeral services will be held at 10 am Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home with interment to follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Indiana. Mr. Bachman enlisted in the Army during WWII, and obtained the rank of Sergeant before being honorably discharged in 1945. He was a longtime member of St. John UCC in Elkhart, the DAV Chapter 19, the Moose Lodge #599, and the UAW Local 941 in Elkhart. Elmer retired as a Master Electrician from the CTS Corporation in Elkhart in 1988 after 39 ½ years of service. In his memory, donations may be made to St. John’s United Church of Christ in Elkhart c/o George Adamson; 2328 Kenilworth Drive, Elkhart, Indiana 46514, or Water’s Edge United Methodist Church in Beaufort, SC.
