O.D. HAMMER

U.S. Veteran

Mr. O.D. Hammer of Zavalla, TX died Thursday May 15, 2014 at a Beaumont Hospital. He was born July 9, 1926 in Honobia, OK and had reached the age of 87 years. He was an M.P. in the US Army during WW II. He was a highway construction superintendant and a dedicated musician. There will be a visitation from 2 pm to 5 pm Sunday May 18, 2014 at Forest Oaks Funeral Home and the funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Monday at Plum Ridge Baptist Church with the Rev. Bluet Humble officiating. Burial will follow in Concord Cemetery in Zavalla, TX and there will be a Masonic graveside service. He is survived by his wife Versie Graham Truett Hammer of Zavalla, TX. Daughter Sherry Tinsley and husband Paul of Huntington, TX, daughter-in-law Sue Hammer of Purcell, OK, sons Harold Hammer of Pasadena, TX David Hammer of Lufkin, TX, sisters Polly Stretcher and husband Buddy of Mt Vernon, TX, Rose Mary McKee and husband Don, Joyce Kinsey, Linnie Davis and husband Jon, brothers Ronny Hammer and wife Sue, and Eldon Hammer all of Honobia, OK, grandsons Chris Hammer and wife Bethany of Granbury, TX, Tim Hammer and wife Mary Beth of Austin, TX, Mike Hammer of Houston, TX, granddaughters Reanna Hammer, Laura Hammer and Holly Tinsley of Houston, TX, Shera Tinsley of San Antonio, TX, Three great grandchildren, Special friends Geneva and Don Graham and J.O. and Lessie Grimes of Zavalla, TX. Step-son Jack Truett and wife Darlene of Jasper, TX, step-grandchildren Kathy Truett of Jasper, TX, Sam Truett and wife Carmen of Albuquerque, NM, Jeb Truett and wife Heather of Eugene, OR, six step great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Eldon and Leona Hammer, first wife Edna Hammer, sons Randy and Lloyd Hammer, sisters Jerry Bishop, Janie Alberts and brother Kenneth Hammer.
