Donald Edward Anderson

U.S. Veteran

Donald Edward Anderson 81, of Williamstown MA. died Tuesday May 13, 2014 at his home. He was born in North Adams on May 20, 1932 a son of the late Harry and Bertha (Lapan) Anderson. He graduated from Williamstown High School. He also graduated from the University of Massachusetts and received his masters degree in education from North Adams State College. He was a veteran of the United States Army as a specialist 3rd class. Mr. Anderson started his teaching career at the Little Red School House in South Williamstown and then to Pittsfield High School where he taught English. In 1967 he transferred to McCann High School in North Adams where he taught English until 1990. He was last employed as a dispatcher for the Williamstown Police Department. He was a communicant of St's Patrick & Raphael Parish in Williamstown. His wife Gay (Gelheiser) Anderson whom he married June 24, 1961 in St. Patrick Church died March 7, 2011. Survivors include his daughter Jane E. Anderson and her companion Michael DiGennaro of North Adams. Two step grandchildren Brandon and Matthew DiGennaro. Brother-in-law George Gelheiser and sister-in-law Elaine Anderson. Several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brother Harry Anderson and two sisters Janet C. Cunningham and Isabelle Singley. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will take place Saturday at 10:00 AM at St.'s Patrick and Raphael in Williamstown. Burial will take place at a later date with military honors. Calling Hours at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St. North Adams,MA. are Friday from 4-7 PM Memorial Donations are suggested for Hospice of the Berkshire's through the funeral home.
