Smith, Albert O. “Butch” Bay City, Michigan

Albert has been ill and hospitalized since the end of March, passing away on the evening of Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at Covenant Health Care-Cooper I.C.U. with his adopted family by his side. The daughter of the late Albert O. and Velma Baker Smith was born February 21, 1946 in Bay City, Michigan. He graduated from T.L. Handy High School. Albert was the co-owner of Huron Truck and Trailer Repair. His interest were golfing and was a thirty year member of Spring Valley Golf Course, NASCAR racing, drag racing, snowmobile racing, dirt bikes and camping. Albert served his country in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam and continued to serve in the U.S. Navy Reserve.

Albert is survived by two sisters: Nancy Burgdorf and Pat Puffer both of Bay City, five nieces; Kimberly (Kim) Hubbard, Karen (Phil) Rupp, Kellie Wascher, and Kayla (Tracy) Hearns and their families, step niece; Beckie Hoffman and step nephew; Mark Puffer, his grandchildren; DruAnn, Danielle, Duane, Daniel, Deena, Brogen, Amanda, Jacob, Nicholas, Nicole, Alicia, Alissa, Debra and Thomas Harthausen, Blaine Anderson, Cecilia Anderson, Gloria Anderson, and Barbara Harker and Dianne Harker his best friends; Doug Lutz, George Wallace, Lisa and Craig Montcalm and Ray Miller.

Following Albert’s wishes cremation has taken place. The family will gather at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. on Saturday, May 17, 2014 to greet family and friends from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Members of the Bay County Veterans Council will conduct Military Honors at 5:00 p.m. to conclude the visitation.
