U.S. Veteran

Billie Jackson King, 93, of Littlefield passed away Thursday May 8, 2014 in Littlefield. He was born February 19, 1921 in Carson County to James Irving and Lillie Faye King. Billie moved from Carson County to Sunnyside in 1940 and graduated from Dimmitt High School with the class of 1940. He proudly served his country in the United States Army as a Sergeant of the Air Core Air Transport Command during WWII. He was stationed at Camp Luna in Las Vegas, NM and then transferred to Guam where he served from August 1, 1942 – October 30, 1945 as supply clerk and then as a member of the military police force. After his honorable discharge, he returned home and met the love of his life, Emma Jean Oler, whom he married March 29, 1948 at Sunnyside 1st Baptist Church Parsonage. He farmed east of Sunnyside from 1945-1954, and then went to work for El Paso Natural Gas at the Dimmitt Station, then transferred to Dumas and Monument, NM before eventually being transferred back to the Dimmitt Station, until he retired on April 1, 1983. After retirement he and Emma Jean moved back to the farm and enjoyed many years together there. Recently they moved to the Library of Legacies in Littlefield to be closer to their oldest son Marshall. He was a lifetime member of the NRA and a member of the Dimmitt-Hereford Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. He is survived by his wife of 66 wonderful years, Emma Jean King of Littlefield; two sons, Billie Marshall King and wife Kaye of Littlefield, and James Irving King and wife JoAnn of Hobbs; two daughters, Betty Jean Sutton and husband Bobby of El Paso, and Margret Francoeur of Silverdale, Washington; nine grandchildren, Billie Lance King, J. Lincoln King, Brandy Gill, Brian Sutton, Brett Bedwell, Shawn Thompson, Stephanie Salinas, Britni Barnett, and Alex Francouer; and thirteen great grandchildren. Waiting for him in Heaven were his parents; a brother; and a granddaughter, Jennifer K. King. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday May 12, 2014 at Grace Chapel in Hillcrest Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Boles officiating. Interment will follow at 1:00 p.m., in Castro County Memorial Park in Dimmitt. Serving as pallbearers will be Billie Lance King, Lincoln King, Brain Sutton, Alex Francoeur, Derrick Bedwell and Jason Gill.
