George L. Honson Jr.,76, of Petoskey, died May 6, 2014, at Bortz Health Care of Petoskey. He was born in Pellston, Michigan, to George and Sadie (Hoag) Honson on February 15, 1938. He married Leona M. Keway on December 3, 1982. She survives. Also surviving are George (Shirley Chippewa) Honson of Lansing, Terri Lyn (John) McComb of Villa Park, Illinois, and Raymond Honson of Petoskey, by first wife Christine; sons Ben Honson of Saginaw, Ken (Cassandra) Honson of Midland, step-children Joseph Petroski of Washington state and Stephanie Braley of Saginaw, by second wife Joetta Russell; step-children Dollie Keway of Petoskey, Gregory Keway of Sault Ste. As a youth, George worked for the CCC planting red pine in Emmet and Cheboygan Counties, and clear cut land near Mackinac for I-75 in the 1950s. He worked several years at Furniture City in Grand Rapids, then relocated to Petoskey and worked many years for Petoskey Steam Laundry. When not at auctions, yard sales, or flea markets, George worked around his home or tinkered in his garage on old cars and trucks. He loved to barter and always had friends over to see his latest finds. He was very hospitable, making coffee and offering guests whatever food was available. Very devoted to his family, he worked sun up to sun down to provide for them. He was an avid hunter and was out long before dawn. He will be greatly missed. His life will be remembered at 11 A.M. Saturday, May 10, at Greensky Hill Indian Mission United Methodist Church in Charlevoix, MI. Rev. Sam McClellan officiating. A light luncheon will follow. Internment will be at St. Clement Cemetery in Pellston at a later date. Arrangements were handled by Charles G. Parks Funeral Home in Petoskey, MI.
