U.S. Veteran

John H. Jossendal, 83, of DeKalb, Illinois, died Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at Kishwaukee Hospital.

Born August 16, 1930, at the family home in Steward, the son of Lars and Caroline (Tvedt) Jossendal, John married Anna M. (Brinkman) Weber on June 20, 1992, at St. Mary Catholic Church, DeKalb.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during the Korean War as Seaman 1st Class.

John worked from 1950-1962 at Halverson Brothers and from 1962-1994 at Hallgren Lumber. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Lodge 717 and BPOE 765 DeKalb, serving as past exalted ruler. John very much liked helping people.

He is survived by his children, Julie (Greg) Arbise of Georgia and Robert Karl Jossendal of Glen Ellyn; grandchildren, Anthony and Christopher; step-children, Steven (Debbie) Weber of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Diane Gittleson of Rochelle and Judy (Jon) Krause of Winnebago; step-grandchildren, Andrew, Jon, Jenny, Lindsay, Ali, Ashley, Andrei and Abby; step-great-grandchildren, Xavier, Parker, Emma, Ethan and Hayden; sisters, Lorraine Kingsnorth of Sycamore and Gertrude Milam of Streator; brother, William Jossendal of Rockport, Texas; and several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and -nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna, on September 26, 2012; sisters, Louise Parsons and Olga Bianchi; brothers, Antone and Lawrence Jossendal; and parents.

The funeral Mass will be held at noon Saturday, May 10, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 321 Pine Street, DeKalb, with Fr. James Parker celebrating. Burial will follow at Fairview Park Cemetery, DeKalb, with full military honors by a DeKalb County Honor Guard.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, May 9, at Anderson Funeral Home, DeKalb, with a wake service at 7 p.m.
