JAMES RAY DANIELS, affectionately known as “Jimmy”, was born October 24, 1935 in Ashland City, Tennessee. He was the eldest of four children born to the union of Nuell Daniels and Margaret Norman Daniels. He accepted Christ at a young age and was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Ashland, where he also began his education. In 1947, The Daniels Family moved to San Diego, California, where Jimmy continued his education. He attended Memorial Junior High and San Diego High School, where he ran track and played baseball. He graduated in 1952.

Fresh out of high school at the age of seventeen, Jimmy enlisted into the United States Army, where he served with dignity and pride during the Korean Conflict as a Heavy Weapons Infantryman. He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Occupation Medal. In his third year of service, he transferred to the National Guard, where he served another three years prior to receiving his Honorable Discharge.

Shortly afterwards, Jimmy began employment with the County of San Diego as a Maintenance Technician and eventually rose to the position of Maintenance Supervisor for the San Diego Court House and later with the San Diego County Operations Center, making many lasting friendships along the way. He retired in 1990 after thirty-two years of exemplary service.

During earlier years, Jimmy met a lovely young lady through her brothers. Her name was Faye Laverne Ritchey. It did not take long before he asked her out on a date. That was her first date and he was her first and only beau. They were united in Holy Matrimony on July 14, 1957. Their union was beautifully blessed with three sons, James Jr., Craig and David.

Jimmy loved life to the fullest. He enjoyed spending quality time with his family and he adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He attended every sports event his sons participated in, from little league to high school. He was their biggest fan. He enjoyed hunting and fishing at his favorite spot, Spanish Landing. His most favorite pastime was watching television. Everyone knew that you could always find him reclining in his chair with the remote close by, probably watching “Law & Order”.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his son, David; both of his parents; granddaughter, Jamie Lynn and his sisters, Barbara Baker and Diana Ralph, who recently passed away in March of 2014.

On Tuesday, May 6, 2014, James Ray Daniels was called from earthly labor to eternal rest. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of fifty-seven years, Faye Daniels;  loving children, James Daniels, II and Craig Daniels (Yolanda); sister, Carolyn Morgan; uncle, Raymond Norman (Rosanna); sisters-in-law, Allene, Willie and JoEtta; brothers-in-law, Kevin and a “VIP”, Brian, who took very good care of Jimmy; four grandchildren, Steven, Jimmy, Christian and Jamar;  two great grandsons, David and Ryan and a host of other relatives and friends who will mourn his passing, yet celebrate his life.
