“Como Boy”

Longtime Teacher

and Hockey Coach


Age 77 of St. Paul on May 5, 2014. Graduate of Cretin High School ‘55 and the College of St. Thomas ‘59. Lifetime resident of Como Park he was a teacher at Benilde High School and Tartan and John Glenn of Maplewood. Hockey coach at Benilde, Tartan, St. Bernards, and Johnson High School. Member of the MN High School Hockey Coaches Hall of Fame and the Old Timer’s Hockey Association. He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Jan. Sons Marc (Cindy), Tim (Lisa), Mike (Pam), and Patrick (Nicole).   Grandchildren Taylor, Matt, Gavin, Madden, Steph, Nick, Alex, Travis, and Gabby. Siblings Nikki (Ken) Smitala, Carol Cooney, Nancy Hansen, Terry (Gail), Tim (Donna), Dan (Marion), Jane Pomaville, and Kathy (John) Kopka. Sisters-in-law Carol Sobota, Ann (Matt) Harrison. Brother-in-law Mark (Patricia) Sobota. Also survived by many other loving nieces, nephews, relatives and long time loyal friends dating back to grade school at St. Andrews. Vic was passionate about hockey, fishing, and golf.   Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 am Friday at Maternity of Mary Catholic Church (1414 N. Dale Street, St. Paul). Visitation 4-8 PM Thursday at the Roseville Memorial Chapel (2245 N. Hamline Ave, Roseville) and one hour prior to Mass at church Friday. Inurnment Roselawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to donor’s choice.
