Peter John Bates Sr. (Pete)
ENFIELD - Peter J. Bates, 55, died May 3, 2014 at his home. Peter was the son of Alvin Bates and Shirley (Davis) Tyler. Peter was born June 26, 1958, in St. Johnsbury, Vt. Peter was a 20+ year veteran log truck driver for HC Haynes. Peter was a Jack of all trades from a crane operator to a small scale mechanic. Peter's passion was his family and working in his garage. Peter loved time with his family and friends enjoyed his motorcycle, snow sledding, fishing or just having a gathering in his garage. He was a friend to all he knew, and always quick to lend a helping hand to even those he did not know and enjoyed doing it. Peter was a volunteer trail boss for the Cold Stream Snow- Riders for 25+ years. Peter was a one of a kind man, every child's "Uncle Pete" and Papa. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him dearly. Peter is survived by his wife of 36 years, Donna Bates, his son Peter John Bates Jr. and fiancée, Ashley Lowell of Enfield, his beloved granddaughter, Natalie Marie Bates; his father, Alvin John Bates and his wife, Mabel of Alfred; his sister, Cindi; two brothers, David and Thomas Bates and families of Florida; his stepfather, Robert Tyler and his wife, Mim of Brooksville, Fla.; his stepsisters, Debbie, Tanya, Rachel and Rhonda; stepbrothers, Robert and Russell Tyler and families, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Peter not only leaves behind his wife, Donna, son, PJ and granddaughter, Natalie, but his dog, Honey who he loved dearly and very special neighbors, Howard and Pam Glidden. Peter is predeceased by his son, Scott Alvin Bates, his mother, Shirley (Davis) Tyler, his grandmothers, Madeline Davis Cravalho and Rachel Tyler; his sister, Vanessa Bates; brother-in-law, John Pelkey and a nephew, Bradley Alaire Bates. A burial service will be held for the friends and family of Peter at Town Line Cemetery on the Lincoln/Enfield town line at 1 p.m. Friday, May 9. There will be a gathering after the service at the home of Peter Bates Jr. and Ashley Lowell on 40 Bickford Terrace, Enfield.
